HISTORY

The Story, the band, and people arround us!

What Become Us!

HamindaliD Band was formed in Surabaya in 2003, initially comprising Ziad (Drums), Arnez (Guitar & Vocals), and Panca (Bass & Vocals). They started with a classic rock genre, which shifted to Progressive Rock a year later, eventually navigating the Indie Music scene in Surabaya.

CHANGE FORMATION

Panca then met Andy three months after HamindaliD was formed. Andy, a keyboard player, was very interested in joining HamindaliD. At that time, Panca introduced a Japanese genre music concept with Ziad and Arnez.

It was a chance encounter when Panca met Uzair at a music studio while Uzair was practicing with his band. Arnez’s performance caught Panca’s attention and led to the decision to change Ziad’s role from a drummer to a vocalist, notable for his raspy, heavy, and powerful voice.

MUSIC INFLUENCE

Panca then introduced Dream Theater to Uzair and Arnez, which was enthusiastically received by Andy. Andy is a musician who is a big fan of Dream Theater. “HOME” by Dream Theater became HamindaliD’s first practice project.

After we finished that song, we decided to enter music competitions, and amazingly, we almost always won every band competition we participated in across East Java, claiming first, second, and third places.

INDIE COMPETITION

After two years of competing in music competitions, we decided to start writing our own songs and entered an indie band competition in Surabaya. And wow, our song “COBA AKU” managed to compete with hundreds of participants from all over East Java, held by Jawa Pos TV.

The song “COBA AKU” made it into the top three and was included in a compilation of the top 10 indie bands in East Java by Jawa Pos TV in 2003. “COBA AKU” was the start of our career to continue being a productive band in the Indonesian music industry.

THE INDUSTRY

In 2005, we decided to move to the capital city, Jakarta, with the goal of facilitating our access to record companies that could help us reach a more national audience.

From there, we began to develop our musicality, continually blending our music genre with the commercial viability accepted by the music industry at the time.

To this day, even though music is no longer our main livelihood, we are still active in creating music to channel our past hobbies. We hope that what we present here becomes a part of what brings joy to your lives, a story of the past, yesterday, today, and for the future.

WHY?

HamindaliD

Our band name, HamindaliD, is derived from a cartoon character in a weekly magazine called MENTARI (PUTRA HARAPAN). In the magazine, there’s a comedy section that tells the story of a Wizard who enjoys helping people in trouble with his magical abilities. HamindaliD is also known as a wizard who is funny, humorous, mischievous, and smart, much like Abunawas.

Another reason is that HamindaliD is a cartoon character very familiar in East Java, especially in Surabaya. The name HamindaliD itself does not contain Arabic elements, but seems like a combination of Arabian, Indonesian, and Javanese influences. We have never met the creator of the cartoon directly. Perhaps if we did, we would find out why they chose the name HamindaliD for the character.

One thing we remember for sure, HamindaliD’s magic spell is “Similikiti!!!” While most wizards use the spell “Abracadabra!”, HamindaliD’s character uniquely uses “SIMILIKITI”, which is funny and has character.

The HamindaliD band has a different depiction of the wizard character than the HamindaliD version in Menatari magazine. We portray our version of HamindaliD more like a wizard with a long hat similar to Gandalf from Lord of the Rings. However, our version of the HamindaliD wizard prefers to play with music and notes that can astonish listeners.

Clearly, HamindaliD band also turns out to be able to enchant the audience at our shows, especially when we are on a big stage with the fierce yet enjoyable sound of distortion.

The Band

Getting to know us better might take you on a journey through the past; perhaps we were once among you with our music filling your days. Initially, we were a trio, then a quartet, a quintet, back to a quartet, and now we have returned to being a quintet, just like our third formation.

We also want to express our heartfelt thanks to all the crew and everyone who has been a part of and supported our journey up to this point.
